Sonata for Trumpet and PianoKarl Pilss
Karl Pilss
Karl Pilss (1902–1979) was an Austrian composer and conductor connected to the Vienna State Opera, and his sonata is a romantic, dramatic work that is very popular in Austria and Germany for exams and auditions.
The opening movement is passionate and full of energy, with wide melodic lines and a rich piano part. Listen to the recording to understand the style and tempo, then practise the movement with the piano-only accompaniment.
